Want To Be a NASA Astronaut? Now’s Your Chance.

Earlier this month, NASA has announced that they’re accepting applications for new astronauts to explore the vast frontier that is outer space.

According to a statement from NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine, ‘we’re celebrating our 20th year of continuous presence aboard the International Space Station in low-Earth orbit this year, and we’re on the verge of sending the first woman and next man to the Moon by 2024,’ in addition to their plans to have humans on the surface of Mars by the 2030s.

Ever dream of being an astronaut? Now’s your chance. NASA wants new people for the Moon and Mars

NASA has announced this week it is hiring and it wants people to explore the Moon and Mars. If that’s you there’s just a month to get everything in order as the application launch window is March 2-31.

NASA already has 48 astronauts on the books but it wants more and there is a good chance you might qualify. We’re serious. NASA has dropped a lot of frankly unnecessary requirements, opening the way for dedicated adventurers and explorers to get their dream job.

Mission Viejo High graduate Michael Lopez

Mission Viejo High graduate Michael Lopez-Alegria will soon become one of just 102 people to be inducted into the United States Astronaut Hall of Fame at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida.

On May 16, Lopez-Alegria, along with astronauts Scott Kelly and Pamela Melroy, will join the ranks of those honored.

‘Being an astronaut is special, and being selected in the group is more special,’ said Lopez-Alegria, 61, who now lives in Washington, D.C. ‘It was a very wonderful piece of news to receive.’

Lopez-Alegria, who was with NASA from 1992 to 2012, went on four spaceflights and holds the NASA record for the most spacewalks at 10. Between 1995 and 2007, he spent more than 257 days in space, including nearly 70 hours outside a spacecraft.
