In fact, there’s a good chance the average Meadville resident doesn’t know that the Market House is in the midst of its 150th year.

In a year that has already seen the cancellation of the 75th edition of the Crawford County Fair, perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise when a milestone twice as lengthy goes largely unnoticed.

Opened five years after the end of the Civil War, the Market House has weathered trying times before, she noted, including world wars as well as the most recent pandemic before the current one, which struck in 1918 just before the iconic structure reached the half-century mark.

Tim Hortons is struggling to claw its way back to pre-pandemic sales levels, blaming another tough quarter on the disappearance of morning commuters.

‘When’s the last time you ordered a coffee and a bagel at 6 a.m. to be delivered to your house?’ asked Duncan Fulton, the chief corporate officer at Tim Hortons parent company Restaurant Brands International Inc.

RBI on Tuesday reported that year-over-year sales across the Tim Hortons chain were down by US$254 million in its third quarter.
