UFOs, the Pentagon and what it means for markets

This entry was posted in ISS on by .

Now that the Pentagon takes UFOs seriously, it’s perhaps appropriate to consider some more mundane aspects of the phenomenon ‘ namely, what it means for markets. UFO data will probably remain murky and unresolved, but if UFOs of alien origin become somewhat more likely (starting, to be clear, from a low base rate), which prices will change?

To consider one scenario, suppose the government fulfills its legislative promise to release all classified information about UFOs this summer, and several senators hold a news conference and announce that alien origin cannot be ruled out as a hypothesis. This hardly seems impossible.

Economics Professor: UFOs Could Be a Big Deal For the Economy

The Pentagon is reportedly getting ready to unleash a flood of still-unreleased data on several run-ins with ‘unidentified aerial phenomena’ that Navy pilots have had dating back to at least 2004 (the release will happen later this year). Congress even set up an entire taskforce to investigate whether the incidents represent an actual threat.

In other words? The US is finally starting to take UFOs seriously. And with that shift, experts are starting to grapple with some pretty big questions.

I Feel Like This UFO News Should Get More Attention

Let us pause for a moment and gaze at the wonder that is CBS News quoting something called Mystery Wire. But there’s much more to marvel at in the story itself. The ice is starting to crack on the subject of strange lights in the sky.

This news came on the heels of a long piece in the New Yorker about the sudden interest in the Pentagon UFO reports for which there is no easy explanation. One of the more interesting elements of the story is the conspicuous involvement of former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid who, as a senator from Nevada, represented UFO country.

Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has long advocated for the serious study of UFOs. Those calls have finally come to fruition.

The Defense Department in August 2020 established ‘ and publicly revealed ‘ the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force. Last month, the Pentagon confirmed the veracity of video and images of UFOs taken by U.S. Navy personnel and leaked to MysteryWire.com.

Defense Department launches UFO ‘evaluation’

It is a very straightforward communication. A memorandum released Monday by the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General is simply titled ‘Evaluation of DoD’s Actions Regarding the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena.’

The project will determine the extent to which the Pentagon has ‘taken actions’ regarding those UAPs ‘ which used to be called UFOs and sometimes still are.

‘An independent government watchdog will investigate the Pentagon’s actions regarding UFOs following complaints from congressional leaders on how the Department of Defense has handled the out-of-this-world topic,’ said the New York Post.
