[ UFO spotted over Hawaii likely spent rocket ]

Thousands were mesmerized by a mysterious flurry of lights that appeared to float above Hawai’i’s evening sky on Saturday, October 24. Photos and videos of the string of lights flooded social media, leaving many to believe the sighting could be anything from a spaceship carrying extra terrestrials to a meteor shower.

University of Hawai’i at M’noa Institute for Astronomy Professor Richard Wainscoat believes onlookers witnessed the reentry of a spent rocket booster used to launch Venezualan satellite, Venesat-1, back in 2008. The used rocket has been circling Earth since the launch, slowly losing altitude due to friction with the tenuous atmosphere in low-Earth orbit. On Saturday, the booster made its final orbits.

Mad Minute stories from Monday, October 26th

EMBDEN, Maine (AP) ‘ A man with a metal detector has found a long-hidden, 222-year-old coin under a few inches of soil outside a church in Maine.

Shane Houston, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was on a metal-detecting trip with a friend from New Hampshire when he found the coin earlier this month, the Bangor Daily News reported.

He said it was found on the grounds of a church in Embden where he had permission to use his metal detector.

The penny is not in pristine condition. Houston said it might fetch $200 but he has no intentions of selling it.

On the same trip, he also found an 1818 penny, a full wagon wheel and a musket ball. The ammunition was measured at 0.75 caliber, making it British in origin.

Fake asteroid? NASA expert IDs mystery object as old rocket

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) ‘ The jig may be up for an ‘asteroid’ that’s expected to get nabbed by Earth’s gravity and become a mini moon next month.

Instead of a cosmic rock, the newly discovered object appears to be an old rocket from a failed moon-landing mission 54 years ago that’s finally making its way back home, according to NASA’s leading asteroid expert. Observations should help nail its identity.

Chodas speculates that asteroid 2020 SO, as it is formally known, is actually the Centaur upper rocket stage that successfully propelled NASA’s Surveyor 2 lander to the moon in 1966 before it was discarded. The lander ended up crashing into the moon after one of its thrusters failed to ignite on the way there. The rocket, meanwhile, swept past the moon and into orbit around the sun as intended junk, never to be seen again ‘ until perhaps now.

NASA news: Returning to the Moon will cost taxpayers a staggering ’22billion

But in recent years NASA has seen a reinvigorated interest in returning to the Moon, paving the way for the first woman to walk the lunar surface as well as extending its reach towards Mars.

And the funding is not yet secured as the US government will need to sign-off on the plan, which was announced as a top priority by President Donald Trump last year.

According to NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, the “political risks” were often the biggest threat to NASA’s work, particularly before the impending election.

His predecessor President Barack Obama cancelled plans for a muted Mars mission after his predecessor blew billions of dollars on the project.

UFOs and Extraterrestrials

UFOs, or Unidentified Flying Objects, and extraterrestrials are perennial favorites in science fiction, but to date there have been no confirmed encounters on Earth. Still, strange sights in the night sky have been attributed to UFOs or aliens over the decades, most famously in Roswell, New Mexico, where many believers claim an alien craft crashed on a farm in 1947. In 2017, the existence of a secret U.S. government program that tracked “UFO” sightings by military pilots, which shut down in 2012, was brought to light in a New York Times report.

Ministers decide grades 1-4 will go back to school Sunday, salons to reopen

Israel’s task force combating the coronavirus outbreak is concerned cases are being imported from areas of the West Bank controlled by the Palestinian Authority, citing high infection rates there and among Arab Israelis.

During today’s meeting of the so-called coronavirus cabinet, coronavirus czar Ronni Gamzu will reportedly recommend mandatory quarantine for Arab Israelis returning after visiting the PA-controlled areas.

Also under consideration is the designation of Palestinian cities with high infection rates as ‘red’ cities, which could presumably cause restrictions on people who have visited those cities.
