SpaceX cargo Dragon capsule to splash down off Florida coast on Monday
LAKE MARY, Fla. – An uncrewed cargo Dragon capsule is scheduled to splash down off the Florida coast on Monday evening roughly 12 hours after its departure from the International Space Station.
The SpaceX capsule, which will be loaded with 5,200 pounds of scientific experiments and other cargo, will undock from the ISS at 9:25 a.m.
“Dragon will fire its thrusters to move a safe distance from the station’s space-facing port of the Harmony module, then initiate a deorbit burn to begin its re-entry sequence into Earth’s atmosphere,” according to NASA.

Dragon is expected to make its parachute-assisted splashdown around 9 p.m. ‘ the first return of a cargo resupply spacecraft in the Atlantic Ocean.

NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken are making preparations for their historic return to Earth Sunday.
The SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, named ‘Endeavour’ by the astronauts, is scheduled to undock from the International Space Station on Saturday and make its splashdown off the coast of Florida the following day.

‘Weather permitting, NASA and SpaceX are targeting 2:42 p.m. EDT Sunday, Aug. 2, for the splashdown and conclusion of the Demo-2 test flight mission,’ said NASA, in a statement. ‘With this test flight, NASA and the U.S. aerospace industry are marking the first successful launch of a crew to the space station on a commercially built and operated American rocket and spacecraft, and a safe return to Earth for that spacecraft and crew.’

SpaceX readies for launch amid Musk’s illness
SpaceX aimed for a Sunday night launch of four astronauts to the International Space Station, although the prospects of good weather were just 50-50 and its leader was sidelined by Covid-19.
Vice President Mike Pence was expected at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center for the long-awaited start of regular crew rotations aboard privately owned and operated capsules. It also marked only the second time in nearly a decade that astronauts were set to rocket into orbit from the US.
