Voyager and Pioneer Probes Continue Journey Through Space
NASA's Voyager and Pioneer probes, launched decades ago, are still traveling through space, providing valuable insights into the outer reaches of our solar system and beyond. The Voyager 1 probe, launched in 1977, is currently over 14 billion miles away from Earth, making it the most distant human-made object in space. The Pioneer 10 and 11 probes, launched in 1972 and 1973, respectively, are also still on their journey, with Pioneer 10 approximately 6.5 billion miles away from Earth. According to NASA, these probes will eventually leave the Milky Way galaxy and enter the intergalactic medium, with Voyager 1 expected to reach the Oort Cloud, a distant region of icy bodies surrounding the solar system, in about 300 years. The probes' final destination will be other star systems, with Voyager 1 predicted to pass within about 1.6 light-years of the star Gliese 445 in approximately 40,000 years.
