Panelists will discuss the rover’s recently started science campaign and groundwork for its next major milestone.

NASA will hold a virtual media briefing at 1 p.m. EDT (10 a.m. PDT) Wednesday, July 21, to discuss early science results from the agency’s Perseverance Mars rover and its preparations to collect the first-ever Martian samples for planned return to Earth.

NASA Perseverance rover investigates ‘garden pavers’ in Mars lakebed

Lots of Perseverance rover parts are visible in this image from July 13, 2021. The science instruments near the ground are on the end of the rover’s robotic arm.

The object of interest is a patch of rock left over from when Jezero Crater was a lake, in the far distant past when Mars was more watery than it is today.

The images shared by NASA show the rover checking out the “pavers” with the gear on the end of its robotic arm.’ ‘

‘Alien burp’ may have been detected by NASA’s Curiosity rover

A group of scientists may have just pinpointed the location on Mars of a mysterious source of methane, a gas most often produced by microbes ‘ and NASA’s Curiosity rover could be right on top of it.

Methane blips have pinged on Curiosity’s detection systems six times since the rover landed in Mars’ Gale crater in 2012, but scientists weren’t able to find a source for them. Now, with a new analysis, researchers may have traced the methane burps to their origin.

Perseverance hits a huge milestone on Mars

Time flies when you’re on another planet. NASA’s Perseverance rover and the Mars Ingenuity helicopter have now both been on the Red Planet for a full 100 martian days. For a mission that is expected to last many years that might seem like a drop in the bucket, but the sheer amount of work that Perseverance has done in just 100 days is pretty darn impressive. The first 100 days after the mission landed have been packed with photography, audio capture, and of course the deployment and testing of the plucky little helicopter.

As with all rover missions, the moments after landing were extremely exciting. For several days, NASA tested out all of the rover’s high-tech systems and instruments to ensure that they were all in working order and nothing had been damaged during the months-long trip to Mars.
