Pediatric Psoriasis Tied to Higher Rates of Other Medical Conditions

Patients with pediatric psoriasis had a higher incidence of various comorbid conditions than those without pediatric psoriasis, researchers found.

Overall incidence rates for any comorbidity were 23.64 per 1,000 person-years in the psoriasis group and 12.68 per 1,000 person-years in the non-psoriasis group, reported Amy Paller, MD, of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, and colleagues.

Using insurance claims data in the U.S., the researchers found that incidence rates for several comorbidities were significantly higher in the psoriasis cohort compared to the non-psoriasis group, including juvenile idiopathic arthropathy, hyperlipidemia, and any serious infection.
