The truth may be out there, but a highly anticipated government report on UFO activity isn’t going to answer all the questions for true believers.

According to The New York Times and other media outlets, intelligence officials will release to Congress an unclassified version of a UFO report later in June.

It focuses on more than 120 encounters, most of them involving Navy pilots, with aerial phenomena that performed wild maneuvers ‘ rapid acceleration, sudden change in direction, prolonged hovering.

Berkshires UFO Sightings: Have Tourists From ‘Way Out Of Town’ Flown Over For The Summer?

Pittsfield, MA ‘ The reports first appeared on an online forum July 2; several Berkshire County residents had witnessed what they described as, “lighted objects,” floating over Pittsfield and south county, rotating and turning different shades of, “orange, yellow and red,” on the evening of July 1.

A month later, Great Barrington residents reported seeing what were described as, “incredible flashing white lights,” in skies to the south on August 1, and others reported seeing strange lights over Lenox on August 5.

These types of sightings, generally referred to as “unidentified flying objects,” or UFOs, are not new to the Berkshires. Pittsfield resident Joe Durwin is author of the blog “These Mysterious Hills” and writes a periodic newspaper column of the same name on local folklore.

‘We can’t ignore this’: UFO sightings spark concern from more than just conspiracy theorists

Though UFOs are often synonymous with aliens in pop culture, those who study the phenomenon say UFOs should be understood by their literal name: unidentified flying objects. Once identified, they may have a mundane explanation ‘ weather balloons, drones or the planet Venus.

That’s led Drezner to conclude more bluntly: ‘What I do know is that UFOs exist ‘ we can’t ignore this any more,’ he said.

The subject is one of mankind’s favorite fascinations. History, and Wikipedia, are replete with UFO sightings, dating back to 1440 B.C. when “fiery disks” were allegedly seen over the skies of Egypt, though some have come to doubt the papyrus the sighting was written on.

US officials reportedly found no evidence that unidentified aerial sightings were alien spacecraft

US intelligence officials found no evidence that unidentified aerial sightings by Navy pilots were of alien origins, The New York Times reported Thursday.

The pilots – David Fravor, then a squadron commander, and Alex Dietrich, then a lieutenant junior grade – interacted with the object for a brief time before it suddenly propelled away.

Dietrich, who remained in the air while Fravor went in closer to examine the object, told Insider’s Ryan Pickrell that encountering “a flying Tic Tac wasn’t part of our plan.”

Transcript: Malcolm Gladwell, Author, ‘The Bomber Mafia: A Dream, A Temptation, and the Longest Night of the Second World War’

Today it’s a special pleasure to welcome back to The Washington Post, Malcolm Gladwell. It’s not a big part of Malcolm’s biography, but back in the 1980s, I tried to hire Malcolm as a writer for the Outlook section of The Post that I was editing. He went to the Post Business section instead, was a star there, left us, went on to The New Yorker and a series of best sellers that’s extraordinary.

MR. IGNATIUS: Let’s talk about your new book, “The Bomber Mafia: A Dream, A Temptation, and the Longest Night of the Second World War.” As a starter, break down that title for us. What was the Bomber Mafia? What was the dream? What was the temptation, and what was that longest night?

Scott Hollifield: UFO report and Cousin Junior’s close encounter

The report, according to sources who spoke with The Times, concludes these pilots weren’t encountering secret U.S. technology, but it doesn’t provide any firm answers on what these things were.

The Times story said ‘senior officials briefed on the intelligence conceded that the very ambiguity of the findings meant the government could not definitively rule out theories that the phenomena observed by military pilots might be alien spacecraft.’

As the senior interim aerial phenomena/UFO correspondent for this award-winning publication, I decided to reach out to the one person I know who claims to have had a close encounter ‘ Cousin Junior, who may or may not exist only in my imagination.
