CloudFerro participates in the European Space Agency’s Digital Twin Earth Precursor

This entry was posted in Space Administration on by .

CloudFerro, a provider of cutting-edge cloud services, is delivering technology expertise to the Precursor phase of the Digital Twin Earth project carried out by the European Space Agency (ESA).

Digital Twin Earth Project aims to create a ‘digital twin’ to replicate the Earth’s past and present behavior, enabling performing complex simulations of the world’s ecosystems. Past and current Earth observation data, combined with artificial intelligence solutions and numerical modeling, will allow for generating highly accurate long-term predictions in the area of climate.

Currently, ESA is conducting several parallel projects to develop a Precursor for Digital Twin Earth for different domains such as marine, agricultural and climate change. One of the Digital Twin Earth Precursor models will refer to forests, where CloudFerro is providing technology expertise and will ensure resources for continuation of the project through the Network of Resources initiative.

Quite a lot has been going on:

CloudFerro Participates in ESA’s Digital Twin Earth Precursor Phase

A major challenge will be to reconstruct the behaviour of forest ecosystems on a global scale by integrating environmental models with EO data to digitally describe forest habitats. Forest is an important and complex layer in the global Earth modelling. It influences serval areas such as water management, meteorological and climatological variables (wind, humidity, carbon flux). It is important to integrate the Forest Precursor with other domain-specific components using numerical models, automated data ingestion with data flows, based on powerful infrastructure that will be able to handle computations and growing data volumes.

VIDEO – BREAKING: Government Releasing 9/11 Video of Pentagon Crash

CNN’s Barbara Starr is reporting that a court has ordered the Pentagon to release Pentagon surveillance video from 9/11 that shows AA flight #77 hitting the building. Judicial Watch has pursued this video in the courts for several years.

Barbara Starr expects that this video will answer some questions and suspicions that have circulated (largely on the internet) since 9/11. This video release on includes the Pentagon ‘s surveillance cameras. It does not include other surveillance video that were confiscated from local business after the 9/11 attack.

UPDATE: Judicial Watch plans to post the video on their site sometime after they receive it at 1 pm ET today. Their site is getting hit pretty hard right now. If we can obtain a copy of the video we will re-post it here.

To Antarctica and beyond

Three kilometers above sea level at the bottom of the world is a near-unbearably cold desert. The icy landscape is featureless and flat; useful in the height of summer when the mercury climbs to -30 Celsius and small airplanes can land and take off in the light. But now it’s winter, it’s been dark for a month and temperatures are down to -80. No plane is coming and 13 people are all alone.

One of those 13 is Dr. Nadja Albertsen and her Skype connection is cutting out. She had been telling me how she ended up in Antarctica, now every other word is lost in the ether. It’s June 4 and a month to the day since the Danish medic last saw the sun. Reams of scientific papers and accounts of the Antarctic winter had prepared me for minds stewing in the darkness, but not Albertsen’s chipper response when I ask her to start over.

North American College Courses in Science Fiction, Utopian Literature, and Fantasy

Although a few have been slightly edited to save space and facilitate paging (“science fiction” has frequently been reduced to “sf”), the responses to our questionnaire are for the most part printed verbatim, which accounts for the differences in implied reader and tone. Most of the course descriptions were originally printed in the college’s general catalogue or in the instructor’s syllabus. In some cases the course is a general course in which some sf, utopian, or fantasy texts are used. The listing is alphabetical by state or province, except that entries received too late for proper placement appear at the end of the list.

Soyuz-2-1B launches Meteor-M No.2-2

A Soyuz rocket has launched a new weather satellite for the Russian Government Friday, replacing a similar spacecraft lost in a 2017 launch failure. The Meteor-M satellite, accompanied by a host of secondary payloads, lifted off from Russia’s Vostochny Cosmodrome at 14:41 Yakutsk Time (05:41 UTC, 08:41 Moscow Time) Friday afternoon. Friday’s launch placed the Meteor-M No.2-2 satellite placed into sun-synchronous orbit by a Soyuz-2-1b rocket with a Fregat-M upper stage. This is the same type of rocket that was employed to launch Russia’s last weather satellite, Meteor-M No.2-1, in November 2017.
