Celebrate Virtual International Observe the Moon Night with NASA

The Moon will be a waxing gibbous on Oct. 16, offering great opportunities for viewing along the terminator ‘ the line between night and day.

NASA has pursued lunar exploration for decades. Later this year, the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket will launch ‘ the first in a series of missions that will land the first woman and first person of color on the Moon in the coming years with the Artemis program.

International Observe the Moon Night is sponsored by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission and the Solar System Exploration Division of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, with support from many partners. LRO is managed by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

International Observe the Moon Night 2021

Everyone, everywhere, every year is invited to celebrate with fellow Moon enthusiasts around our planet for International Observe the Moon Night – a worldwide public event encouraging observation, appreciation, and understanding of the Moon and its connection to NASA exploration and discovery.

Join NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center on Oct. 16, 2021, for the Virtual Observation Party at 6:00 p.m. CDT via the Facebook event page.

This virtual event is brought to you by the Planetary Missions Program Office at Marshall and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. Additionally, it will include a planetarium show and interviews with planetary and citizen scientists. There will also be an interview about the Artemis missions. World Space Week 2021 honors women in space: How to join the celebration online and in person

This year’s World Space Week kicks off today (Oct. 4), bringing people together from around the world to celebrate women in space with a variety of online events and interactive learning activities.’

The international celebration commemorates the achievements and contributions of space science, technology and its applications. The events of World Space Week stretch from Oct. 4 ‘ the launch anniversary of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1, in 1957 ‘ to Oct. 10, the anniversary of the signing of the Outer Space Treaty in 1967, which governs how to use space, such as the moon and other celestial bodies, peacefully.’
