[ Australia fires: Smoke to make ‘full circuit’ around globe, Nasa says ]

Many things are taking place:

Bushfire smoke likely to make Earth ‘full circuit’

Smoke from the massive bushfires in Australia will soon circle the Earth back to the nation, says Nasa.

Massive infernos have raged along the nation’s east coast for months, pushing smoke across the Pacific.

Nasa said plumes from blazes around New Year’s Day had crossed South America, turning skies there hazy, and moved “halfway around Earth” by 8 January.

“The smoke is expected to make at least one full circuit around the globe,” the US space agency said.

The unprecedented scale and intensity of the fires has been exacerbated by climate change, experts say.

Bushfire smoke will circle around the globe and return to Australia, NASA says

A thick layer of smoke has also settled over Victoria, leading to warnings for poor to hazardous air quality issued across the state.

Smoke from bushfires in New South Wales and Victoria is predicted to travel around the globe, before returning to settle over Australia in coming days.

The’National Aeronautics and’Space Administration (NASA) wrote on its website that it has been tracking the movement of bushfire smoke more than 15 kilometres into the atmosphere.

Bushfire smoke plume destined to reach Australia again after circling the globe, NASA predicts

NASA is predicting smoke from the country’s devastating bushfires will make it all the way around the world, with the potential to move over Australian skies again in the coming days.

Several Australian cities have already been blanketed with smoke during the bushfire crisis in the past few weeks, including Canberra, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney, where air quality was rated at its “worst ever” in mid-December.

Satellite imaging tracking the progress of a smoke plume shows it drifting out over the Tasman Sea and then to the Pacific Ocean.

Bushfire smoke makes full circuit of the globe and returns to Australia

‘Over the past week, NASA satellites have observed an extraordinary amount of smoke injected into the atmosphere from the Australian fires and its subsequent eastward dispersal,’ the agency said on its website.

‘The smoke is having a dramatic impact on New Zealand, causing severe air quality issues across the country and visibly darkening mountain-top snow,’ the agency said.

NASA said the intense heat from bushfires across Australia ‘ including New South Wales, Victoria, the Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island ‘ had triggered fire-induced thunderstorms.

University of New South Wales astrophysicist Lisa Harvey-Smith has been following the plume’s progress through NASA images.

Bushfire Smoke Is About To Drift Over Australia After Travelling Around World

Bushfires around Australia have caused entire cities to be blanketed in a thick smoke haze, leading to serious breathing issues for some.

It was incredible to see that same smoke drift across the Tasman to affect people in New Zealand. However, after a bit more time it was revealed that that same smoke managed to go even further and hit South America – which is more than 11,000 kilometres away.

But incredibly, scientists from NASA have explained that the exact same smoke is about to complete a trip around the planet.

The agency added that the bushfires have been creating their own type of weather, which has helped the smoke plume move so far.
