Town’s UFO monument to be moved, again

The truth is out there. Though a Massachusetts memorial commemorating a supposed 1969 UFO sighting may not be for much longer.

Officials in Sheffield, Mass. have ordered the 5,000-pound concrete marker moved for the second time since its 2015 installation, though they’re facing stiff opposition from a former resident who claims he witnessed the close encounter as a 9-year-old boy, according to The Berkshire Eagle.

The monument ‘ which was funded by donations from locals and some of the 40 witnesses to the alleged extraterrestrial contact ‘ was first installed three years ago, only to be relocated a few weeks later because it was on town property and, some said, detracted from a nearby replica of a beloved historical bridge.

But now, the Town Administrator, Rhonda LaBombard, has ordered the marker moved again, saying it technically sits on a public right-of-way easement that runs through the farm.

‘This isn’t fair to the community,’ protested Thom Reed to the Eagle, adding that LaBombard herself picked the memorial’s current location the first time it had to be moved. ‘She chose the spot herself.’

Quite a lot has been going on:

Town wants UFO memorial moved; witness objects

SHEFFIELD, Mass. (AP) ‘ A memorial in a remote corner of Massachusetts that marks a 1969 UFO sighting has been ordered moved, but one man who experienced a close encounter is objecting.

The 5,000-pound (2,300-kilogram) memorial in Sheffield was installed in 2015, but was moved about 30 feet (9 meters) a few weeks later when it was discovered it was on town land.

Now, Town Administrator Rhonda LaBombard tells The Berkshire Eagle it has to be moved again because it’s on a town right-of-way easement.

That’s not sitting well with Thom Reed. He was 9 when he, his mother, grandmother and brother saw what he described as a "self-contained glow" that flooded their car with an amber light. About 40 people in several surrounding towns reported the strange light.

UFO Monument Hounded Again By Western Massachusetts Town

For the second time in three years a small town in western Massachusetts is ordering that a monument to a reported UFO sighting be moved.

The monument, first placed near the replica of a historic covered bridge in the town of Sheffield in 2015, commemorates the reported sighting on September 1, 1969 of an object with a ‘self-contained glow.’

Forty people came forward saying they saw an odd light that night in that area of southwestern Massachusetts, according to The Berkshire Eagle. A family driving over the bridge that was there that night reported a paranormal experience.

The event has been recognized by the historical society of a nearby town (Great Barrington) and by the International UFO Museum Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico.

Shortly after the 5,000-pound monument was erected in 2015, town officials demanded that it be moved because they found it was on town property. Now town officials are saying the monument is in a public right-of-way and are demanding that it be moved again ‘ even though, according to one of the UFO witnesses, the same town administrator who is now saying it has to be moved a second time picked the spot where the monument is now.
