Alien Life: This Strange Quirk of the Human Mind Could Be Preventing Us from Finding ET

In the 1990s, American psychologists Christopher Chabris and Daniel Simons conducted a very simple and now famous experiment which, on the face of it, sounds more like comedy sketch than a piece of serious scientific research.

Incredibly, more than half the observers did not see the gorilla, a striking demonstration of a psychological phenomenon known as inattentional blindness, where an individual fails to perceive an unexpected stimulus that is in plain sight.

This quirk of the human mind could be preventing scientists from finding signals from extraterrestrial life (if it exists), according to neuropsychologists Gabriel de la Torre and Manuel Garcia from the University of C’diz in Spain.

These signals may manifest themselves in ways that humans are simply not looking for, the authors suggest in a new study published in the journal Acta Astronautica.

“When we think of other intelligent beings, we tend to see them from our perceptive and conscience sieve; however, we are limited by our sui generis vision of the world, and it’s hard for us to admit it,” de la Torre told the Spanish Information and Scientific News Service.

Trump’s Moscow Missile Threat Hits Russia’s Ruble, On Track For Worst Week in Two Decades

The ruble has been hit hard following the warning from Donald Trump that Moscow should ‘get ready’ for missiles to be fired into Syria.

As Russia faces accusations over complicity in an alleged chemical weapons attack in Douma, near Damascus, the ruble fell for a third day in a row and is heading for its worst week since 1999, eclipsing the slump it suffered in 2014 when Moscow annexed Crimea, the Financial Times reported.

It dropped 2 percent in early European trade Wednesday with one dollar buying 64.5 rubles, down almost 10 percent since the start of the week.

Russian markets continue to reel from U.S. sanctions which have wiped off billions of dollars off the value of Rusal, the world’s second biggest aluminum producer and headed by Oleg Deripaska.
